Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes was an influential English philosopher of the 17th century, best known for his 1651 book "Leviathan". He is considered one of the founders of modern political philosophy, advocating for a strong central government and developing influential ideas like social contract theory and the "state of nature". Hobbes argued that without a powerful sovereign authority, human life would be "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short".
