
Charles Sanders Peirce
Charles Sanders Peirce was an American philosopher, logician, mathematician, and scientist who is considered the founder of pragmatism. He made significant contributions to logic, semiotics, and the philosophy of science, developing influential theories on signs, inference, and scientific inquiry. Peirce also worked for many years as a scientist for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, where he conducted research in geodesy and gravimetry.
