Euripides was one of the greatest tragedians of ancient Greece, alongside Aeschylus and Sophocles. He wrote approximately 90 plays, of which 18 complete tragedies survive, including famous works like *Medea*, *The Bacchae*, and *Hippolytus*. Euripides was known for his innovative approach to Greek drama, focusing on the inner lives and motivations of his characters and often portraying mythological heroes as ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.
